Throne VPN is a continuation-style project that follows the old Nekoray approach, but with a refreshed app and fewer outdated parts. It is aimed at users who prefer a local client they can tune, rather than a simple one-button VPN.
Most people use it to connect through different proxy and VPN modes depending on the network they are on. On restrictive networks, Shadowsocks and related anti-censorship setups are a common choice.
Split tunneling is useful when only some apps need the tunnel. You can keep local services and normal browsing outside the VPN, while routing selected traffic through it.
